Tim Canty
It's no secret that NC State University offers educational and research advantages on par with any large university, but it's the camaraderie with fellow students (both in and out of the classroom) has confirmed junior Tim Canty's decision to join the Wolfpack.
"NC State is a large university – there is a amazing amount of guest lecturers and research opportunities that you just can't find in a smaller campus environment," he said. "And despite the large size, there were only about 25 other physics majors in my class, which has led to opportunities for amazing friendships to develop."
"By combining a large university with a relatively small college, you are able to really get a personalized experience while at the same time being a member of a much larger community."
A double major in physics and mathematics, Canty excels in the classroom – he's a member of the NC State Quiz Bowl team as well as the University Honors Program – but has work equally hard to create lasting memories of his time on campus.
"Some of my most memorable experiences so far at NC State have been my involvement in intramural sports," he said. "The experience of overcoming obstacles to win a game with all of your friends is a great feeling, and being able to see how much better you and your friends have gotten over the course of a season is really inspiring."
"The friends I have met at NC State are what keeps me going during the hard times," he said. "Whenever the assignments get hard, or giant waves of tests come, I know that I have my friends to hang out with – they are a major outlet of stress relief for me."
